30 Potholders of Mental Temperature

This was a 30 day project that was proposed and accepted by Blue Line Arts for their 2023 annual “30x30” show. The concept is that for 30 days, I would keep a diary and track the overall high and low of my moods. I would then create potholders using colors that corresponded with those moods.

I was inspired by a trend in the sewing community of making ‘temperature quilts,’ which show the highs and lows of each day for a given year, and I wanted to apply that in a more personal way. My professional career involves a lot of data visualization in digital format and I enjoy seeing it applied to an analog craft as a way to determine composition.

The potholders measure 6”x6” in accordance with the rules of the show, each piece being available for purchase individually. You can find the daily mood record over on my blog here.
