My First Tutorial

Why it happened, I don’t really know, but Simply Sewing Magazine reached out to see if I could create a simple upcycling tutorial for them. I’ve never written a tutorial, but sure! I said. I was excited to try my hand at it. They sent a template to use and requested I take process photos. I decided to submit a tutorial for a very basic pillow cover and am happy to say that they accepted it and it is now published in Issue 106, available wherever Simply Sewing Magazine can be purchased or downloaded!

The experience was an interesting learning curve with some takeaways for the future. For example, I had to convert everything to metric measurements since the publication is based out of the UK. I can only assume I did a somewhat accurate job with that. Getting decent photos was definitely the hardest part! In the future I may have to invest in some good lighting rigs and better photo editing software. They published what I gave them, though, and that’s certainly been a vote of confidence.
