About the Artist: Stefh Godinez is a multidisciplinary artist primarily working with paint, fiber, and collage They are currently based out of Sacramento, CA, but graduated from CSU Monterey Bay and received a BA in Visual Public Art with a distinction in major. Their focus in studio art and ethical art making initially is what sparked their desire in wanting to pursue mural making long term. They since have assisted with 6 murals across California in Sacramento, San Francisco, and Monterey. They have led 2 of their own small scale mural projects in Sacramento as well; however, have pivoted in recent years into making their art practice more private due to the climate of Sacramento’s art scene. Stefh’s intersecting identities as a first generation non-binary Mexican-American informs their work by emphasizing the desire to commemorate the convergence of memory keeping and grief. Their hope is to continue to create work from a lense that honors being a child of diaspora without continuing to further stereotypes that create a false sense of a Mexican monolith. By focusing on the intimacy that is experienced in and outside of family, Stefh hopes to highlight how the relationships that we experience inform the people we become.
