Rainbow Block Exchange - 2020 Pandemic Quilt
When I moved to Sacramento in 2019, I didn’t know anyone. I left behind some very good friends including my creative collaborator TRX. At the beginning of 2020 we had the idea to do some kind of postal art exchange and decided on a monthly block exchange with each month being a different color. At the end of the year we would have 12 blocks that we could then make into a quilt. Little did we know that in a few months this project would become one of our few social and creative outlets. Pictured here are the 12 blocks sent to me, which I pieced together, created a quilt back for, and then quilted. The third photo shows the quilt TRX made from my 12 blocks. This quilt was then given to a mutual friend.
“Aerial” Quilt (2018)
Collaborative quilt made with friend and fellow maker TRX, based in Oakland, CA. First, I made various sized quilt blocks using the blue and patterned fabrics, dark green, and light yellow. They then pieced the blocks together using the brighter green and yellow patterned fabric to join. They then used scraps to make the quilt back. We both took turns hand quilting and I finished it off with binding. The name Aerial came from the quilt's resulting look being reminiscent of flying over land, looking down at a mish mash of farm fields and lakes, greens and yellows and blues. We jointly gave it to a mutual friend upon the birth of her first child.
“Holy Mountain” Quilt (2017)
Collaborative quilt made with friend and fellow maker TRX, based in Oakland, CA. We jointly agreed to use solid colors, and TRX sourced materials from their own stash - dark olive corduroy, yellow linen, and cottons in pink, blue, and magenta. Individual blocks were created by TRX which I then assembled into a quilt front and back. We gave it to a mutual friend upon the birth of her first child.
